Sound

PROPOSAL — under review

Status: proposal, pending ratification. The badge tells the truth about this page: nothing below is law yet.

principle. a utility does not sing. sound, where it exists, is a closed vocabulary of short, dry confirmations — the auditory form of the haptics restraint law.

rule (proposed). at most six sounds: open, close, apply landed, undo, error, captured. no jingles, no easter eggs. sound is never the only channel; it is off in one toggle; it respects the operating system’s volume and silent state. it pairs with the apply-succeeded haptic and the visual signature at the apply-landed moment only — the one moment the suite is allowed to sound like itself.

worked example (proposed). an apply lands: the chip morphs, the signature haptic fires on hardware that has one, and the apply-landed sound plays — once, dry, under the user’s volume. an auto-revert plays nothing cheerful: the error sound, or silence where sound is off, with the strip carrying the words.
